阅读教学中设计的问题分为展示型、参阅型和评估型三类。
展示型问题是为了促进学生对文本信息的识记和理解而设计的问题, 教师预先知道学生作答的内容，学生作答时会在很大程度上依赖文本信息。
在文本阅读的初始阶段，教师通常就文本中的字词句、细节信息或篇章结构进行提问，检查学生对文本内容的识记或理解程度。这类问题的答案一般是唯一的，学生凭借表层理解、短时记忆或是快速查找便能找出。
例如：What、Who、Where、When、Why、How等问题；
参阅型问题是在学生理解并获取文本事实信息之后, 教师针对文本特征、写作特点、写作意图进行提问。这类问题一般在文本中没有现成的答案，教师也没有现成的答案，学生作答时需在一定程度上参阅文本内容，同时结合已有的认知和经历，对文本信息进行提取、加工和运用，并且能够从文本中找到足够的信息来佐证答案。
例如：
What's the author's purpose of writing this text？
Who would be most likely to read this text and why?
What do the images/words suggest?
评估型问题是在学生准确获知文本内容，深入理解文本内涵之后，教师通常需要设计问题，引导学生对文本话题内容，作者观点等进行进一步的深入思考。通过与自身原有认知和看法相比，对学生能够思辨地看待文本内容或作者观点，形成并完善思考和解决问题的方法和态度，成为一个有判断力的读者。
这类问题基本上从文中找不到现成的答案，以文本为基点，学生通常需要从不同的角度和层面结合逻辑和情感，得出综合性的评价和结论，我们称之为评估性问题，这类问题一般可以为学生提供运用所学语言表达独立看法的机会，因此对学生发挥主体性培养深层次思维有重要的作用。
例如：
Q1: Do you agree with the writer's opinions? Why (not)?
Q2: Which one do you most agree with? Why?
Q3: What(content/sentence/expression/idea) impressesyou most? Why?
Q4: Can you provide some more strong reasons/ examples/ evidences to support the writer's conclusion?
Q5: If you were..., what would you do?/ If you were..., how would you react?
